The Old Library: Intimate Occasions by Design
Some venues make an impression through their scale. Others through their atmosphere. The Old Library belongs firmly to the latter. Tucked away in its own garden overlooking our grounds, this historic building has an intimacy that makes it particularly suited to weddings, private celebrations, dinners and smaller events. Nestled on the edge of campus, it offers a distinctive setting in which the building itself becomes part of the occasion.
A building with options
The Old Library is comprised of three distinct spaces: the Main Hall, the Rotunda and the Carver Room. Guests will enter via the Rotunda, perfect as a lobby for greeting, before arriving at the Main Hall. The principal space, the Main Hall is 105 square metres, seating 50 for dining and holding up to 130 theatre-style, while the Carver Room offers a more contained mini boardroom setting for meetings of up to twelve. That range means the same building can host a full wedding ceremony one week and a boardroom-style away day the next.
Fully licensed, genuinely versatile
The Old Library is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, so couples can marry and celebrate on the same campus without the logistics of moving between sites. Its outlook over the grounds also makes it very convenient when it comes to getting impactful photos.
What it suits
Weddings and civil ceremonies are the obvious fit, but the Old Library works equally well for intimate dinners, small conferences and bespoke private events where atmosphere matters as much as capacity. The superb acoustics of the space and in-house Steinway piano also make it a fantastic choice for concerts and other musical performances.
Arrange a viewing of the Old Library, or ask the Events Team about available dates and how your event would work in this space.
